Spring Showers Inspiration

Spring Showers Inspiration

When creating this upcoming collection, I allowed myself to do something I’ve always struggled with—play. There’s this idea that artists are carefree, free-spirited beings, and while I wish that were the case for me, I am a recovering perfectionist. I often joke that I "beat paintings to death" until I like them. While that’s true, this time I let myself enjoy the process: painting a color, deciding it’s the wrong choice, mixing a new color, painting over it, and moving on.

It created an incredibly interesting dynamic—layers of color, mistakes, and unapologetic experimentation. Earlier this week, I spoke to a friend and mentioned that I thought I was painting like Cézanne. Certainly, I am no old master, and I wouldn’t even say I’m directly inspired by Impressionist painters, but the concept of painting over and over the surface to create shadow and movement really resonated with me as I worked on this collection.

I’m so excited to share these paintings with you. They feel different from anything I’ve done before, but I’m confident in the work and sincerely hope it connects with you.

xoxo,
GP
